The Van Ness Tenants Association has recovered court records from DC Superior Court providing substantially more information about the September 10 police operation and felony drug arrest at 3003 Van Ness.

According to the filing in the DC Superior Court Criminal Division, members of the United States Park Police Narcotics Unit, Criminal Investigations Task Force and SWAT executed a DC Superior Court search warrant at an apartment on the seventh floor of the West Building of 3003 Van Ness at approximately 6:44 a.m. on September 10th.

The filing states that officers encountered the person later arrested inside the apartment. According to the report, a search of the apartment resulted in the seizure of suspected crack cocaine, powder cocaine and amphetamines, along with digital scales, numerous small plastic bags, capsules, measuring equipment, $285 in cash and other items. The report states that field tests were positive for cocaine or cocaine base and that suspected amphetamines also tested positive.

The report says the person arrested was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, cocaine and amphetamines. Officers wrote that, based on the quantity of the drugs, the way they were packaged, the scales, packaging materials and other items recovered, they believed the evidence was more consistent with possession with intent to distribute than with simple possession.

The court records confirm that the substantial police presence residents observed at 3003 Van Ness was part of a planned search-warrant operation involving a tactical team, rather than simply an arrest that happened to occur at the property.
